Pony Level Self-Assessment

TEAM SELF-ASSESSMENT

Please pick the level that best describes your Pony Division team. Please understand that at each level, not every bullet point will apply to your team. We are just looking for an overall assessment of your team's skill level.

Pony PLATINUM Division

  • My team will hold our own practices before the start of SFYBL practices.

  • My team will practice more than 2 hours a week.

  • I have 5 or more players who play travel ball.

  • I have 5 or more pitchers who consistently throw strikes.

  • My pitchers understand the balk rule.

  • I have 2 or more catchers who can throw the ball from home plate to second base on a straight line.

  • My infield defense can get double plays on ground balls at least 50% of the time.

  • My defense will catch more than 90% of ordinary pop ups and fly balls.

  • More than 90% of my players have proper batting mechanics.

  • More than 90% of my players consistently hit line drives when they are given easy pitches to hit.

Pony GOLD Division

  • My team has many characteristics of the PLATINUM division except we are a young team with many 12U's "playing up"
  • My team will try to hold our own practices before the start of SFYBL practices

  • I have 0 to 3 players who play travel ball.

  • I have 4 or fewer pitchers who consistently throw strikes.

  • Some of my pitchers understand the balk rule.

  • I have 1 or 2 catchers who can throw the ball from home plate to second base on a straight line.

  • My infield defense can get double plays on ground balls 25% to 50% of the time.

  • My defense will catch between 50% to 75% of ordinary pop ups and fly balls.

  • About 60% to 80% of my players have proper batting mechanics.â??â??

  • About 60% to 80% of my players consistently hit line drives when they are given easy pitches to hit.

Pony SILVER Division

  • My team will begin practices only when we get our field permit from SFYBL

  • I have 1 or 2 pitchers who can throw strikes. The rest of my pitchers have trouble finding the strike zone.

  • Most of my pitchers are just learning the balk rule.

  • My catchers can throw from home plate to second base, but only via a rainbow arc.

  • My infield defense can field ground balls, but has trouble turning a ground ball double play.

  • My defense can catch between 25% to 40% of ordinary pop ups and fly balls.

  • About 40% to 60% of my players have proper batting mechanics; the rest are still learning.

  • About 40% to 60% of my players have proper fielding mechanics; the rest are still learning.

  • About 40% to 60% of my players have proper throwing mechanics; the rest are still learning.

Pony BRONZE Division

  • My team will begin practices only when we get our field permit from SFYBL

  • I have a few players who have pitched before. The vast majority will learn during the season.

  • When my catchers throw the ball from home plate to second base, they either bounce it or throw it via a rainbow arc.

  • My infield defense is still learning to field ground balls and throw to the correct base.

  • My defense is still learning to catch ordinary pop ups and fly balls.

  • Fewer than 40% of my players have proper batting mechanics; most of my team is still learning.

  • Fewer than 40% of my players have proper fielding mechanics; most of my team is still learning.

  • Fewer than 40% of my players have proper throwing mechanics; most of team is still learning.
